Max Wiese and partner John Desterbecque purchased the Esperance Brewery which had opened in 1896. The last bottles of beer were destroyed when Hancock’s Hotel (Hall) on the corner of Andrew Street and the Esplanade burnt down in 1958. Max Weise owned a block of land at Lake Warden and had built a small jetty onto the lake. Red gums were planted around the house to protect the garden from the wind. The property was sold to the Stearne Family.
