In 1895, Charles Henry Staker, from South Australia after only having been in Esperance Bay for three weeks fell gravely ill from typhoid fever. He died at a young age on the 22nd of November in Esperance the small town had no established hospital.
The final resting place of Charles Henry Staker, exhumed from the ‘Old Esperance Cemetery’ – now Esperance Oval – and reburied in the current Esperance site on 27 July 1897.
