A Telecommunication Station was established in Esperance on Dempster Head. Esperance Radio (coastal radio station) was established at its present site in 1913.
It was one of many established round the Commonwealth to serve shipping, and to maintain a listening and transmitting watch for ships. Apart from shipping, the station communicated with isolated stations in the southern areas.
