The population of Esperance dropped to 949.

The Chairman of the Esperance Roads Board was Mr Edward .J.McCarthy who had first served as a Municipal Mayor in 1899.

The West Red Lake School building was said to be the smallest in WA. The school house measured 17ft by 12ft, and was constructed of weatherboard and iron. A cast iron stove provided warmth in winter. The catchment area for the school was a three mile radius.  A horse and buggy was provided for the teacher to get to school.
