Recently the S.S. Dawn took away another large shipment of Pink Lake salt from Messrs. E. J. McCarthy and Co., of Esperance. This enterprising firm have established salt-crushing works at the lake, where the supply is practically inexhaustible, and for absolute purity will, it is claimed, bear favourable comparison with the best Liverpool salt. The lake, which is some three miles west of the town, comprises some 2,500 acres. Its waters are of a delicate pink tint, and form one of the sights of the district.

Salt Production. Edward James McCarthy has applied to the Lands Department for a special lease of 50 acres on Middle Island, near Esperance, for the purpose of obtaining salt, and also for one of five acres for shed accommodation and jetty rights at the same place.
